Melissa Oltman, MSW, LICSW is a mental health counselor at Better Mental Health. She specializes in working with children and young adults to help them navigate the many difficult aspects of life. She believes that a strong, collaborative, and trusting relationship is at the core of therapeutic work, and prides herself in the ability to build this relationship with clients. She uses evidenced-based practices to help clients address concerns such as emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, communication skills, relationship building, trauma, and atypical neurodevelopment. Her philosophy is to meet clients where they are emotionally. Through this process the client and the counselor can work together to individualize goals and identify the necessary steps to achieve these goals. Melissa aims to help clients understand themselves better and gain knowledge of how thoughts and emotions interact with each other to influence our everyday lives. She has been working with children, adolescents, and families since 2015.
Melissa graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 2015 with her Bachelor’s in Social Work after completing an internship with Pillsbury United Communities in their youth program and Washington County Developmental Disabilities case management. She then graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2018 with her Master’s in Social Work after completing an internship providing in-home services for children and families. Melissa comes with experience working in inpatient, residential, and day treatment settings along with therapy provided in school and case management. She has been working at Better Mental Health since 2023.
