Kya Rud, MA, LPCC is a mental health counselor at Better Mental
Health. She specializes in working with adolescents and adults to help
them navigate the many difficult aspects of life. She believes that a
strong, collaborative, and trusting relationship is at the core of
therapeutic work, and prides herself in her ability to build this
relationship with clients. She uses evidence-based practices to help
clients address concerns such as: depression, anxiety, self-esteem,
relationship difficulties, communication skills, emotional distress,
and phase of life changes.
Kya believes that the most effective counseling happens when the
counselor and client work together to identify goals and steps to
achieve those goals. By breaking up larger issues, she is able to help
clients work through seemingly unmanageable problems in a manageable
way. Kya aims to help clients understand themselves better and gain
knowledge of how thoughts and emotions interact with each other to
influence our everyday lives.
Kya graduated from the University of North Dakota with her Bachelor’s
degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services in 2019 and her Master’s
degree in Counseling in 2020 after completing practicum and internship
experiences at Northern Prairie Community Clinic and the University of
North Dakota’s Counseling Center. She has been working at Better
Mental Health since 2020 providing in person and virtual therapy.
